Once in a while I stumble on to something that is a head scratcher.

And this just happens to fall in to that area.

I will be the first to admit that I am NOT a huge Weiland fan.

STP was good, VR was awesome but most of the solo stuff I have heard from him has not been high on my list of “great songs” and don’t think I have not given it a fair shake.

He is one of Jessica’s favorites so there have been many chances for him to wow me.

But today I see this in the news…

Not going to lie to you.

I don’t see myself spending any money on it.

But if you are into it by all means.

Here are the details!

Till next time!

Well lately there has been a lot of talk about what is going on with Disturbed.

A while back they made a statement that they are putting the band on hold.

What does that mean?
Well no new music for a while.

Slipknot has been in the same boat for a while as well.

But it looks like we may have to put another one on the list now.

Check out the following article.

23, 2011
It’s been just over a year since AVENGED SEVENFOLD released its fifth album, “Nightmare”, and the band can see the end of the touring and promotional cycle for it approaching sometime in the first half of 2012. But singer M. Shadows told The Pulse Of Radio that making a follow-up to the group’s first No. 1 disc is the furthest thing from their minds right now. “We’re not really thinking about it,” he said. “I think bands burn themselves out. I mean, look what happened to DISTURBED. You get caught up in the ‘do a record, tour for two years, do a record, tour for two years.’ We just need to make sure everybody’s mentally in the right spot before we start writing and doing a new record. Right now, I think we’re gonna tour, go back to Europe in February, maybe finish up with a couple of things in Europe in the summer, and then take six, seven months and just sit around. If we decide to write, we will, if we decide not to, we won’t.”

DISTURBED announced earlier this month that it was going on “indefinite hiatus” after five studio albums and more than a decade on the road.

AVENGED bassist Johnny Christ admitted in a recent interview that writing the band’s next album without late drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan is going to be “a very different process without having Jimmy around.”

Sullivan, who died from an overdose of prescription drugs and alcohol in December 2009, was a major songwriting force in AVENGED SEVENFOLD.

The band’s current drummer is Arin Ilejay, who began playing with them earlier this year.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has been overseas for most of this summer but is now home to headline the Rockstar Uproar Festival tour, which kicks off on Friday (August 26) in Camden, New Jersey.

Greetings and salutations to you all out there in the cyberworld. Many thanks for reading through this week’s WRWU Blog. I’ll do my best to entertain, educate and not suck. Let us begin!

*AC/DC wine? Yep. Looks like the fellas are getting into the wine business soon and speaking of AC/DC. Bon Scott area bassist Mark Evans is putting out a tell all book about the Bon-era in November titled “Dirty Deeds: My Life Inside/Outside AC/DC.

*Metallica and Lou Reed have confirmed their album will be out on November 1st.

*After nearly splitting up a year ago it seems guitar god Slash and his wife, Perla, are to renew their wedding vows later this month in Ibiza.

*Slipknot/Stone Sour front-man Corey Taylor, again, in the news this week with the statement that he and Duff McKagan have been working on music together. He did also state that there were no hard feelings with him not joining Velvet Revolver.

*As expected Shinedown to re-team with producer Rob Cavallo. Cavallo was producer for Shinedown’s most successful album to date in “The Sound of Madness”. Be on the look out in the new year for the new, as-of-yet, untitled album.

*I know we don’t play him but I’m a huge fan of Tom Waits and felt like this story was worth sharing. Seems his website, tomwaits.com, is encouraging people to come to his site on Tuesday the 23rd where he’ll possibly roll out a new song and/or discuss his new album.

*Metal Bible is now available in English. Initially published in 2005 in Swedish and Dutch it’s finally ready for American eyes… that can’t read Swedish or Dutch. Some of the people featured include; David Ellefson, Brian “Head” Welch and Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain.

*Pretty cool thing going on in NYC September 12 at the Best Buy Theater and it’s the second Metal Masters Clinic. Who’s on board to participate in this? Charlie Benante, Anthrax’s drummer. Frank Bello, Anthrax bassist. Kerry King… it’s fucking Kerry King, if ya ask you better learn! David Ellefson of Megadeth and Mike Portnoy. This is a free clinic but will have limited numbers. If you go, tell me how it is.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Weekly Rock Wind Up Blog. Feel free to share with your friends!

So I thought it would be a cold day in hell before this would happen!
Someone quick….Get the Devil a sweater!

BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed to Birmingham Mail that the band’s original lineup has reunited and is rehearsing for a tour and new studio album.

Iommi and singer Ozzy Osbourne wrote new material in June for a record that will be released next year.

“We’re really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we’ve been writing is really good,” said Iommi. “It’s more back to the old original stuff.”

He added that the reunion has been kept under wraps for some time.

“It’s all been very hush-hush. Ozzy’s been the worst at trying to hold it back. He’s doing a lot of TV and he’s being asked stuff about a reunion and he’s going, ‘Well, I never say never.’ He told me, ‘I don’t know what to say.”

Iommi told the Birmingham Mail that his only apprehension about a reunion of BLACK SABBATH’s original lineup was the health of drummer Bill Ward who in 1998 suffered a heart attack.

“He hasn’t been 100 percent. He had an operation a few months ago, so we’ll see how he is.”

Ozzy was asked by QMI Agency in a recent interview why the four members of SABBATH couldn’t seem to agree on playing together again. Ozzy replied, “I haven’t got a clue. If they want to call me, they can call me. I never say never. If it works, fine. If it don’t, I’ll move on. It ain’t the end of the world. I ain’t gonna get a box of Kleenex and cry my eyes out for the rest of my life.”

Ozzy added, “I would love to do a great album with BLACK SABBATH. I would love to get the credit we so roundly deserve. At the same time, the pressure would be really intense. I could go tomorrow and make an album with them, but it wouldn’t necessarily be something I would be proud of.”

The original SABBATH lineup has not toured together since summer 2005, and last convened for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in early 2006.

SABBATH did try to record a new album 12 years ago, their first since 1978, but abandoned the attempt after just a couple of songs.

Osbourne and Iommi last year amicably resolved their problems over the ownership of the BLACK SABBATH name and court proceedings in New York were discontinued.

Ozzy filed a lawsuit against Iommi in May 2009, claiming that Iommi illegally took sole ownership of the band’s name in a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Osbourne sued Iommi for a 50 percent interest in the “Black Sabbath” trademark, along with a portion of Iommi’s profits from use of the name.

The Manhattan federal court suit also charged that Osbourne’s “signature lead vocals” are largely responsible for the band’s “extraordinary success,” noting that its popularity plummeted during his absence from 1980 through 1996.

Lawyer Andrew DeVore argued that Osbourne signed away all his rights to the BLACK SABBATH trademark after he quit the band in 1979.

Osbourne’s lawyer, Howard Shire, called that agreement a “red herring” that was “repudiated” when the singer rejoined in 1997 and took over “quality control” of the band’s merchandise, tours and recordings.

And so here we are again with YOUR Weekly Rock Wind Up Blog where I attempt to keep you in the loop with all of Rock-n-Roll’s comings and goings. Let us begin… shall we?

*Jack White and Bob Dylan are probably the two biggest stars to contribute to a brand new collection of recordings of songs by country music legend Hank Williams. “The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams” is slated to be released on October 3rd and will have a Who’s-Who list of artist contributing to never-before-heard songs from the late songwriter. And just who are some of the names in conjuction to Dylan and White? Alan Jackson, Norah Jones, Levon Helm, Sheryl Crow, Merle Haggard and Dylan’s own son Jakob.

*I know neither of the following artist show up on The Rock but we know who they are in Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse. As we all know Winehouse died on July 23rd and it seems that Gaga wants to portray her in biopic.

*Another one of those, “Holy shit! Is that album really 20 years old?!?” If we’re talking about Metallica’s “Black Album” then yes, it is! And to commemorate it a litney of artist have covered the songs and will be available in the September issue of Germany’s Metal Hammer magazine. Some of the artist include; DevilDriver, Sodom, Motorjesus and LEMMY!!

*”God Bless Ozzy” the documentary about rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, and produced/directed by his son Jack, hits theaters on the 24th and 29th on this month. There will be showings in and around KC. Follow this link to see where a showtime will be near you; http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/series/godblessozzy0824_29.aspx

*Looks like RATT to make another return to the world of Rock-n-Roll in 2012. If you recall the resurfaced, initially, last year with “Infestation” which won some critical acclaim. However, they briefly toured then went on indefinate hiatus.

Well it was about a week ago that KC was deep in the heart of one hell of a heat wave.

For me though it was not too bad. I was looking at a high of 81 when it was 110 here!

Headed up to northern Minnesota for a few days in a cabin on Leech Lake.

I will be the first to admit that my idea of “roughing it” is having a hotel room with the remote stuck to the night stand but after a night and a few bottles of Jack I have to admit it was really kick ass.

Sure there were a few kinks in the trip.

Bear poop right next to the cabin, a circuit breaker that would click off, (at the worst time) and a fight to the death with a bat but other than that it was a hell of a trip.

To explain the circut breaker and poor timing….It was Monday night of vacation and things were good. We had a wicked thunderstorm going and were out on the screen room.

Jess had gone into the cabin for another drink and I suddenly felt a little flutter go past my head.

I dismissed it as a bug or maybe the Jack was really starting to kick in.

Then it did it again…I could see in the twilight a small figure circling the room.

With my Ninja/Cat like skills I dove into the cabin.

It was about the time I slammed the door that Jessica asked what was going on? I could only reply in a pant “bat”.

As a man I realized (after my heart slowed down a bit) that I had to do something.

I knew that there was a fish net next to the fridge (on the patio with the bat) So I “sacked up” and low crawled to the net.

After that I launched myself back into the cabin and caught my breath.

Finally I realized the bat was not going to leave on his own.

So I (with the help of Jess and her small flash light from in the cabin) made my way out to the patio again.

It was me or him so after a few sweeps in the air with ZERO luck I decided it was time to put some light on the situation and finish this fight once and for all.

So with the net in front of my face I reach up to pull the light cord and just as I get to it I hear “click” as the breaker goes out and that is almost instantly followed by hysterical laughing (Yes, Jess thought this was the best thing ever)

Finally 3 sweep later victory was mine.

He put up a good fight but learned that in the end nothing stands or flys between me and my drink.

Feel free to play “The Great Outdoors” scene in your head now.

Not as many miles as usual but sometimes you need to take a vacation and not a death trip! (or at least death by road)
Till next time!

So much music news to pimp out this week.

*I’m aware we don’t play any Miles Davis but many of those in the world of Rock-n-Roll know who Davis is and his importance on the world of music and the legacy he left behind. Thus, it’s with extreme enthusiasm I share with you that actor Don Cheadle is making the Miles Davis Biopic a reality! The storyline, as of now, will focus on one day in Davis’ life with Herbie Hancock handling the music.

*Looks like Vegas is getting in on the rock festival idea. The inaugural 48 Hour Festival will take place at the Luxor Festival Grounds on Saturday, October 15th, and Sunday, October 16th. Headliners will be Avenged Sevenfold, Korn and Godsmack with support from Five Finger Death Punch, Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine, Hollywood Undead, Sick Puppies, Escape the Fate, Sevendust, Adelitas Way, Rev Theory, 10 Years, Art of Dying and many more!

*Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, founding members of KISS, will team up with rock journalist Ken Sharp on “Nothin’ To Lose” which will be an oral history of KISS’ early years. What makes this story interesting is the fact that two different KISS memoirs are due out soon. Guitarist Ace Frehley’s “No Regrets” drops on November first and, drummer, Peter Criss has a book planned for 2012. Will Simmons and Stanley’s book be a counter to theirs? I suppose we’ll find out.

*Are you like me and still a young kid at heart? When you see certain figurines… or dolls as some say… of your favorite rock god do you buy them? Maybe you’ve got a few of the Todd McFarlane collection. Well now you can own the Beastie Boys! Little dolls were made for their most recent video of “Don’t Play No Game that I Can’t Win” and will only set ya back… $750! Hey, that’s ONLY $250 a piece.

*Queen fans mark September 5th on your day planner as their two-night stint at Wembly Stadium, back in 1986, is coming to DVD. Not only will you be entertained by some of Queen’s biggest hits, you’ll also enjoy behind-the-scenes features which include new interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor.

*Believe it or not U2’s Actung Baby is twenty years old and the Irish rockers will be re-issuing it on November first. There’s to be five different remastered re-releases including packages that include vinyl, CD’s and DVD’s.

*This week the board game Monopoly busted out two new versions of their old game with Metallica Monopoly and AC/DC Monopoly.

*Dream Theater announced their fall tour this week. Beginning in September on the 24th in San Francisco and ending in Austin on the 26th of October. As of now, no stops planned for KC and it seems the closest would be in Pittsburgh, PA.

*And finally, how would you like to own John Bonham’s old classic car from the 1976 concert film “The Song Remains The Same”? Seems the current owner, Bruce Screen, is hoping the car will be picked up by a museum where it can be appreciated. Screen purchased the car in 2000 and hasn’t taken it out much because he was “too frightened to drive it on the roads”.
