Alright, man…ALICE IN CHAINS last night was AWESOME. Hands down one of the coolest shows I’ve seen in a long time. Nothing fancy, nothing extravagant…Just a night of killer rock and roll. I loved every second of it, and if you were there, I’m sure you did too. I got some video footage of the night and threw my 2 cents in with this video edition of my blog! If you were there, leave a comment and tell me what you thought of the show!

Yup I am talking about the Rockaholic pre-sale for the Low Dough Show with Sevendust and Drowning Pool.
Seems like they just keep getting faster and faster.
Since the sell out I have had many calls and emails about the “scalpers” getting all the tickets.
Unfortunately there really is nothing we can do to stop that but there is something you can do to stop it.
Don’t buy their tickets.
Keep trying your luck on winning them or just contact the person that you see online and try to talk them down on the price.
You know what they paid.
Make them a fair offer.
Dont forget there is a service fee on the tickets but if they want 50 for a 9.89 ticket that is a bit out of hand.
Not everyone you find with extra tickets will try to gouge you one the price.
Some got tickets and found out after the fact they had to work or could not make the show for some reason.
But to those who bought a bunch just to make money, I say shame on you.
I guess in the future when a Rockaholic pre-sale fires up do whatever you can to make sure you are close to a computer so you can be one of the first to get your tickets.

Sorry about the rant.

Till next time!

From Spinner.com:

Though there have been many posthumous releases from Jimi Hendrix’s archives since his tragic death, the recently-announced ‘Valleys of Neptune’ isn’t meant to be a “lost” album. Rather, it’s a look at the creative period in Hendrix’s life between the 1968 release of ‘Electric Ladyland’ and his legendary appearance at Woodstock the following summer.

“In the aftermath of ‘Electric Ladyland,’ he made a series of recordings with the original Experience,” co-producer, author and Experience Hendrix catalog director John McDermott tells Spinner. “When they effectively stopped working as a three-man recording unit, he brought in [bassist] Billy Cox — this album captures that transition. We don’t want to over-dramatize it. This is that missing period of time.”

The dozen tracks on ‘Valleys of Neptune’ reflect a time where Hendrix, finding his way with a new band while fighting contractual problems, was blossoming creatively. Featuring reworked hits like ‘Fire’ and ‘Red House’ as well as fully-realized songs that have never officially been released, the album shows that Hendrix was embarking in a new direction, one that would later be heard on ‘Band of Gypsys.’

The album will be released on March 9th. Just for you, here’s a little preview of it…the title track, “Valleys of Neptune.” Enjoy, and get ready for the Experience Hendrix Tribute Tour on March 16th at The Uptown…I can’t wait for it!

I went to the Aaron Lewis show at The Midland Sunday night and had a great time…We heard some classic Staind stuff and heard some new music, too. Check out my video edition of the blog below!

Posted by F 'Em Up Chuck on December 30, 2009

Well, to continue this little thing I’m doing, I figured I could find some more things of 2009 to talk about, right? I’ve done music, I’ve done movies. Now, I’m doing concerts.

I would say hands down, the greatest show of the year was easily Rockfest. 15 bands. 2 stages. 1 day. 50,000+ screaming Rock fans. Can it get better than that? From Korn to Crooked X, Shinedown to Duff McKagan’s LOADED, Rev Theory to Drowning Pool, Rockfest kicked MAJOR ass.

After that, man, it’s hard for me to say that one show was better than another. As hard as I try, I can’t remember being disappointed with a concert this year. There were definitely some unique shows, like Steel Panther playing the Harley Giveaway in the Spring as well as Johnny Dare’s Birthday Bash…That was freakin’ awesome. And then there were just some hands down, all out bad ass concerts. The first one that comes to mind is the Low Dough Show with Shinedown at The Midland. First off, you crazy Rockaholics sold it out in like 40 minutes, which is AWESOME. Second off, it was probably one of the best, most intimate shows I’ve ever seen from Brent and the guys. If you were there, I think you’ll agree with me.

Who could forget Jackyl playing a free show at the Power & Light District? Thousands of you guys crammed into the P&L just to see Jesse tear it down. And of course, I can’t fail to mention Jesse coming back to KC for not just one Low Dough Show, but two Low Dough Shows!  He’s a good friend of Kansas City, and whenever he comes you can rest assured it’s gonna be a throwdown, Dixie style!

To be honest, there’s too many concerts to remember and name here…From Nickelback and Seether to Def Leppard and Poison, 2009 was ripe with badass shows right here in Kansas City. And we already have a list of rockin’ concerts for 2010! Alice in Chains, AC/DC, Vince Neil, Aaron Lewis, and of course, The New Year’s Eve Big Ball. It begins in 2009 and it’s gonna end in 2010. It’s gonna be a hell of a show with Rev Theory, Cavo and Red Line Chemistry. What a way to kick off the new year!!

Leave a comment, let me know what some of your favorite concerts were from 2009 and what you’re looking forward to most in the new year! I’ll see ya tomorrow night!

Alright…So, 2009 is almost finished. Personally, the year flew by. A lot of ups and downs, a lot of surprises, a lot of EVERYTHING happened this past year.

I don’t know about you, but I had a blast.

Probably the crowning jewel of 2009 was Rockfest. The coolest part about this year’s Rockfest is that YOU GUYS bought 43,000 tickets during the Rockaholics presale. Yeah, that’s right…you listeners nearly sold it out in less than a week. How badass is that? And besides that, the day was awesome. From Korn all the way to Crooked X, Rockfest 2009 was incredible. I’m guessing you agree with me?

From the Low Dough shows to Twisted Christmas and The Big Ball coming up in just a couple days, 2009 was ripe with killer shows and nights most of us won’t forget (we may not remember them, but that’s for a different reason!). And besides shows, a lot of great music was released…I’m gonna give you a list of some of my favorite Rock titles that came out this year:

  • The Veer Union – Against the Grain
  • Mudvayne – Mudvayne
  • Cannibal Corpse – Evisceration
  • Hatebreed – For the Lions
  • Lamb of God – Wrath
  • Dope – No Regrets
  • Mastodon – Crack the Skye
  • Killswitch Engage – Killswitch Engage
  • Five Finger Death Punch – War is the Answer
  • Sick Puppies – Tri-Polar
  • Halestorm – Halestorm
  • The Black Crowes – Before the Frost…Until the Freeze
  • Pearl Jam – Backspacer
  • Three Days Grace – Life Starts Now
  • Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way to Blue
  • Breaking Benjamin – Dear Agony
  • Creed – Full Circle
  • Steel Panther – Feel the Steel
  • Burn Halo – Burn Halo
  • Puddle of Mudd – Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate
  • Megadeth – Endgame
  • Adelitas Way – Adelitas Way
  • Janus – Read Right Return

That’s just a list. It’s in no certain order…BUT, I feel like I’d be a gigantic douche if I didn’t give you my top 5 Rock albums of 2009…not that you care, but I would feel incomplete without it. So humor me if you will. Drumroll please!!

1. Alice in Chains – Black Gives Way to Blue

I loved this album when it first came out. I had high expectations, and to be honest, it met all of them. BUT, I didn’t realize how absolutely kickass this album was until last week when I was driving to Christmas dinner…Since we were driving about 40 mph in the snow, our normal 45 minute drive was extended long enough to listen to this album in its entirety, each track back to back to back. This album is AWESOME. By far, my favorite disc of 2009. And AIC is coming to KC in February! Hell yes!

2. Mudvayne – Mudvayne

I’m a big Mudvayne fan. I’ve always been, and I’m guessing I always will be. From the first time I heard “Scream With Me,” the new single off of this album, on the Rock to now listening to the entire album, I am a fan. I think you will be, too. Seriously. The opening track, “Beautiful and Strange” sets the pace for the rest of the CD. It rocks!

3. The Black Crowes- Before the Frost…Until the Freeze

The Black Crowes are one of the greatest rock bands around right now. They do a great job of mixing their own rock style with classic blues, and the outcome flat out rocks. Their latest album was recorded in Levon Helm’s barn studio in Woodstock in front of a very small crowd of BC fans…So this is a pretty unique experience as far as albums go. It delivers the studio quality you’d expect, but also the attitude that comes with live performances. AND, when you buy the physical CD (Before the Frost), you get a download code for the second disc (Until the Freeze) for free.

4. Breaking Benjamin – Dear Agony

I love Breaking Benjamin. I was excited when they headlined Twisted Christmas, especially since it was after their latest album released, so we could plan on hearing new tracks live! From the opening “Fade Away” to the ending, crushing “Without You,” Dear Agony, in my opinion, takes you back to the days of Saturate. I think you’ll dig it if you’re the slightest fan of BB.

5. Five Finger Death Punch – War is the Answer

With a title like that, you’d expect this album to absolutely crush it…And it does just that. From beginning to end, this disc is everything you’ve come to love about 5FDP and more. One of the highlights of the new album is their rendition of “Bad Company,” which you heard live at Freaker’s Ball this year! If you like it hard and heavy, you’ll definitely love the new 5FDP!

So there it is…My Top 5 Albums of the year. Throw in your 2 cents and let me know some of your favorite music from 2009! Should be fun to see what comes out of 2010 (ROB ZOMBIE!!).

I hope you guys have your tickets for the New Year’s Eve Big Ball…it’s gonna be a hell of a way to say goodbye to 2009 and hello 2010!

I was going through all of our concerts, and man, I am excited for the shows coming to town. Besides just finishing Twisted Christmas, we have a free show with The Veer Union this Thursday at the Harley Giveaway Party, The New Year’s Eve Big Ball with Rev Theory, Cavo and Red Line Chemistry, Aaron Lewis solo and acoustic, Alice in Chains, the Experience Hendrix Tribute Tour and AC/DC (just to name a few).

Most of these concerts are cut and dry, but the Experience Hendrix Tour might need a little explaining…We’re all familiar with the rock god that is Jimi Hendrix. Hands down, in my opinion, this guy is the most influential guitarist of all time. Unfortunately and tragically, Hendrix died too soon.

As a tribute to the legend, a group of insanely talented musicians are traveling the country playing the music created and inspired by Hendrix. This is the full roster coming to Kansas City as of now:

  • Billy Cox of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys
  • Joe Satriani
  • Kenny Wayne Shepherd
  • Jonny Lang
  • Living Colour
  • Chris Layton of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
  • Sacred Steel featuring Robert Randolph
  • Susan Tedeschi
  • Eric Johnson
  • Ernie Isley
  • Brad Whitford of Aerosmith
  • Doyle Bramhall II
  • Hubert Sumlin, formerly of Howlin’ Wolf
  • Cesar Rosas & David Hidalgo of Los Lobos

I can’t wait for this show. It’s going to be as close to Hendrix as I’ll ever get. When I was in college, I took some lessons for a few months studying his technique…I never got close to what he could do on the guitar, but it was always fun trying. It’s gonna be a lot of fun watching these musicians play his music the way it was played in the ’60s…and how cool is it that Billy Cox, the bassist of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys will be there to make sure it’s up to par?!

I’m a little excited for the show.

For the first time ever, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will be sharing a stage. Unfortunately, the stage isn’t in Kansas City or anywhere even close…In June 2010, four of the biggest thrash metal bands of all time will be playing the Sonisphere Festivals in Poland and Czech Republic.

Lars Ulrich says, “Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindfuck! Bring it on!”

Anyone wanna go to Poland for the summer?

twisted2Breaking Benjamin

Twisted Christmas ROCKED. Let me just lay that out there…If you were there, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you missed the show, man, you missed a hell of a night! From Adelitas Way to Sick Puppies to Papa Roach to Breaking Benjamin, this year’s Twisted was phenomenal.

twisted6Papa Roach

Papa Roach, in my opinion, stole the show. They crushed it. This was my first time seeing them live, and I had high expectations…everyone from A-Hole Bob to listeners told me they put on a high energy show and crush it live…AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I’m not a gigantic P. Roach fan…well, I wasn’t before Twisted. Now, after seeing them live, I get it! They were awesome.

Sick Puppies and Adelitas Way both did a killer job at The Midland. From Adelitas Way opening the show to Sick Puppies closing their set with the crushing “You’re Going Down,” I could tell that each and every one of you crazy motherf’ers loved every single second of it…AND SO DID I!
twisted3Breaking Benjamin

And on to the headliners…BREAKING BENJAMIN. I gotta be honest, at first I thought Ben’s sickness was gonna affect the show. But by the end, I couldn’t believe how much he was rocking even with a cold. And all of you guys there in the pit and on the balcony were definitely helping him sing each and every song. They opened it and crushed it with “I Will Not Bow,” and about halfway through did a killer rendition of Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” These guys know how to rock…it was great to see them live again. The only disappointment was that there was no encore, but I get it; Ben was sick. They didn’t want to push it. And even with no encore, we still got the cover of “Dream On.” I was pleased, and I’m guessing 100% of you guys were too!

Let me know what you thought, what your favorite part was, who you thought stole the show, etc, etc, etc…Just throw your two cents in by leaving a comment below!

PS – How about Sick Puppies’ cover of Destiny’s Child “Say My Name?” A little weird, but definitely entertaining!!
