It is weeks like this in late March that make me want to say many bad words.
I have had a cold of some sorts for all but two weeks so far this year!
Come on man…It is almost April, spring is really here and we are still getting snow!
What happened to global warming!
Till next time!

Ps. Yes in about 3 months I will be complaining about how hot it is!
Twas a busy week in the world of Rock-n-Roll. Much Foo news as I covered in my Weekly Rock Wind Up Blog. Same with Pearl Jam and front-man Eddie Vedder. Well inside this blog you’ll get more Rush, Sammy, Alice knowledge then you’ve ever had before!!! OK, that might be a little overkill. Then again, sometimes my job is overkill. That being said, let’s jump right into new music news.
Jane’s Addiction diligently working on a new album. Although they’re without Duff McKagen, Perry Ferrell’s pretty sure Jane’s annoyed him which is why he left. they do have a working title “The Great Escape Artist” and will showcase work from TV on the Radio member and Yeah Yeah Yeahs producer Dave Sitek. Expect this album to be ready for the masses by summer.
Ozzy’s re-releaseing two of his heavy hitters in “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary of a Madman” on May 31st. Both will be available individually on vinyl or CD or together in a deluxe collector’s box.
Rob Zombie inducted Alice Cooper into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Here’s video footage from Fuse TV.
If you’re needing to be re-upped on Poison before they arrive at the Spring Center in June with Motley Crue and the New York Dolls you’ll want to pick up the two-disc “Double Dose of Poison: Ultimate Hits” on May 3rd. It will help celebrate their 25th anniversary as a band.
The original Alice Cooper group box set comes out in June and will feature four CDs from the years 1964-1974 with demos, rarities, live, spoken word and the live show of 1971 “Killer” tour in St. Louis. Plus a 64-page, full-color yearbook style book with hard front and back cover.
iDrum was officially launched this last week. It’s the world’s first truly interactive magazine for drummers containing news, reviews, lessons and hours of video content. Completely free and featuring Rush’s Neil Peart, for more info check out www.idrummag.com
And speaking of Rush, Eagle Rock Entertainment has launched their first music films as iPad apps with “2112 & Moving Pictures Classic Albums” as well as Nirvana’s “Nevermind Classic Albums” and “Ladies & Gentlemen… The Rolling Stones”.
A new Foo Fighters documentary “Foo Fighters: Back and Forth” will show in select movie theaters nationwide on April 5th. The only stops near Kansas City will be in Manhattan, KS – 8PM at Seth Childs 12 and Warrensburg, MO – 8PM Carmike University 8. For more info click me, Foo!!
A Perfect Circle announced a North American tour this week. Unfortunately no stops have been planned for KC, yet. As for the closest places to catch their tour; the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, Minnesota will host APC on the 6th of July and the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver on August 2nd. To see if A Perfect Circle is coming near you follow this link.
On April 16th, Record Store Day, Foo Fighters will release an album of all covers. And when I say album I mean album, vinyl. It’ll be in only select stores and it’s most definitely going to be a first come first served. Follow this link to find the closest Mom & Pop Record Shop.

Holy crap it is on! March Madness is in full swing and if you don’t think emotions can go from wicked highs to crushing lows in a matter of seconds, you need look no further than the Pitt/Butler game from this past weekend. Pitt, the number 1 seed in that region, went from losing the game, to winning the game, to ultimately losing the game in just the final 2.2 seconds. It was an unbelievable finish….that’s what March Madness is all about! If you didn’t see it, here’s the clip of the final seconds…trust me, take a few minutes to watch it.
Same thing with the Texas/Arizona game. Texas had it all but locked up with less than 15 seconds to go and a couple costly mistakes gave Arizona the win. There were some incredible games in the second round and hopefully your bracket kept up (hopefully you picked VCU to get to the Sweet Sixteen….if so, you should get the pool just based on that pick alone!)
Now, I’m sure you probably know that I’m a big KU fan but I’ll absolutely tip my hat to K-State who had a great run in the tournament and almost survived to play another game. Jacob Pullen had a tremendous game matching his career high of 38 AND setting the school record for all-time scoring…..I give him a standing ovation because that kid can play! That said, I now believe that Frank Martin (Head Coach) is a complete douche-nozzle. During the postgame, a reporter asked Pullen to sum up his emotions having set the school record but not able to get the win. Pullen broke down with emotion and Frank berated the reporter asking “Is this what you wanted? To make him cry in front of all these people? Good question.” As a matter of fact it was a good question and instead of going after the reporter Frank should have praised and commended his star player for having that kind of passion. Pullen left it all on the floor, there is no doubt about that and my hat is off to him. I have more respect for that kid now than I did before to see him come off of the floor so physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted from putting it all on the line that he couldn’t hold back his emotion after the game. I respect Frank and how he has turned that program around but I think he handled the situation very badly……and I’m still giving a standing ovation to Jacob Pullen.
So now it’s on to the Sweet Sixteen and the intensity is only going to grow! I look forward to this weekend of more incredible games and more games that come completely down to the wire…..I LOVE March!!
oh yeah….and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

Anthrax’s Scott Ian was in Hawaii when the earthquake/tsunami struck Japan and it’s effects were felt all the way on the islands. Here’s his take on it from his blog;
“My wife Pearl and I just got back from Hawaii. We went on a ‘babymoon.’ Basically, our last trip just the two of us for a long time. It was a great vacation, super relaxing, doing nothing but hanging on the beach, and oh yeah, there was a tsunami. It sounds a lot worse than it was.
“If you’ve seen the footage from Japan you’ve seen what a big tsunami is capable of.
“We were at dinner with friends when one of them got a text saying there was a tsunami warning because of the earthquake in Japan. This was at 10 p.m. By the time we left dinner at 11:30 p.m., traffic was insane with people trying to get out of Waikiki and it suddenly hit home that this could be serious. We hadn’t seen the Japanese footage at this point, so at least we didn’t have that to scare the shit out of us. Our friends offered for us to follow them to a house inland, but we decided to head back to our hotel on the North Shore, an hour drive from where we were. The tsunami was not expected until 3 a.m. so I figured we’d make it. The only issue was if they closed the road to our hotel that runs along the ocean for 10 miles or so we’d be fucked. We gambled. Turns out our hotel (Turtle Bay Resort) is a safety zone for the North Shore so we were heading to the right place.
“We made it back around 12:30 a.m. and turned on the TV and saw the devastation in Japan. Unbelievable. These images are still burned into my brain and my thoughts are with you my friends.
“After seeing this, we did start to worry. Would it really be safe here? Are we high enough up (fourth floor), etc. etc. I called the desk half a dozen times asking these questions and telling them I had a pregnant wife with me and they reassured me each time that we’d be OK. Hey, I’m a kid from New York City and I just saw Japan get demolished like Godzilla came through. What do I know about tsunamis?
“The TV news was tracking it as it made its way past the Midway Islands and the reports were varying from a four-foot wave to a 12-foot wave. We just kept watching the ocean from our room — we had a great view. At around 2 a.m. the hotel security announced over the PA that we had to leave our rooms and close our balcony doors and shutters and move into the hallway. We decided to stay in our room. If something was coming, I wanted to see it. The hallway was packed with people from the lower floors. People had moved chairs and pillows with them to sleep on. Pearl and I watched and waited. At 3:15 a.m. reports came in that Kauai got hit and that the wave was only three feet but that it could get bigger. We had about 10 minutes until it hit. At this point I was really questioning whether we should’ve just gotten in the car and drove up the hill. Then we watched the ocean completely suck out dry about 500 feet out. It was nuts, dry as a bone, all the reef exposed. The water was just gone. We stood on the balcony waiting to see a huge wave ripping towards the shore line and then there it was, tiny little waves, one on top of another, moving really fast but small came pouring back into the empty space. Once it seemed like it had peaked the reports came in that the first wave was three feet and that the next wave could be 12 feet. OK, I was starting to see a pattern here. I guess they have to scare the shit out of you in case it is bad so you take it seriously. Meanwhile at this point we’re on the balcony shooting video of the ocean sucking out again and the small waves ripping back in.
“That’s what happened over and over again for the next two hours and at 5:45 a.m. we finally went to bed even though they were still saying ‘the big one’ could come. Bottom line, I am really happy it didn’t.
“Woke up the next day and found out there was some damage on the big island and some damage to boats in some of the harbors but all in all a non-event, especially when compared to Japan. If it was a wave like that, I’d be typing this from my mattress 20 miles out at sea somewhere.”
