Johnny’s birthday bash with Federation of Horsepower and Steel Panther.
FOHP always kills it. That good dirty southern punk rock sound.
They really make me want to drink a bottle of Jim Beam, tear some sheet metal off my truck, and find a mud hole to play in!
Then we go to Steel Panther…Dude…Everything that was so right about the 80’s you find with that band.
From the guitar/drum solo to the flashing (whoever that girl was…THANK YOU!)
Everything they do is golden to me but being a fan of the 80’s power ballads “Community Property” it is truly one of those classic love song from the 80’s. With a whole lot of honesty!?
Kids…Dont listen to it but if you are over 18 by all means go check it out.
The Guns cover was amazing and the Journey sing along blew me away. (check that out on the main page)
The between song show is just as good if not better than the songs themselves.
Got a text from one of my friends at the show. He was in a situation where he had to go to the bathroom but was not sure what to do. Miss the song or miss the between.
It was that good!
Better get back to it!
Now it is time to get ready for FREE Jackyl show this Wednesday at the Worth Harley Davidson North Bike Night at P&L!
See ya there!

Alright. I was able to squeeze in a showing of Halloween 2 before the kick-ass Steel Panther show, and I am glad I did. The movie was AWESOME!

There was no doubt in my mind that the movie was gonna be fun to watch, but I gotta say…I was genuinely impressed with it. Mr. Rob Zombie did it right. Again.

The acting was great. The story was great. The sound was – or should be – award winning. And the ending, to say the least, was near flawless.

Needless to say, I loved the movie, and would highly suggest it to anyone. But be aware, it is pretty crazy intense and a tad violent. If you don’t want to see (and hear) a man’s face get stomped in, you should probably stay home.

Good movie. Simple as that.

So, I thought before I went into the studio tonight, I’d watch a movie. Just got “Adventureland.” Looked good enough, right?

Wrong. The movie sucked. I’m usually a pretty easy movie critic, but was highly disappointed with it. The actual flick was nothing like I expected—and nothing like the trailer made it look like.

At the end of the movie, I had to ask myself, “Did anything happen during the past 2 hours of my life?”

So…it sucked. Simple as that. But, I will say I am freakin’ excited for Halloween 2, which I think I’m gonna try to squeeze in before the big ol’ Bash tomorrow. Looks like I’m not going to get any sleep.

See ya’ tomorrow.

alphadog

So before I came into the station this morning, I watched “Alpha Dog.” This movie is almost 3 years old, and I’m finally just getting around to watching it…I know, it’s kind of sad.

If you haven’t seen it, let me highly suggest it to you. It’s an unbelievable movie about teens involved in the drug scene in Los Angeles a few years ago. You watch as this “gang” of druggies slowly is torn apart by certain decisions, namely the kidnapping of a rival’s younger, 15 year old brother.

The best part about the movie is the fact that it is inspired by true events. Not that it’s cool that what happened in the movie actually happened in real life, but it always seems to make a movie a bit more legitimate when it is based on true life. In fact, the movie so closely resembles what actually happened that people fought legally to ban the movie from running in movie theaters when it was first released.

Another cool thing about the movie is the fact that Justin Timberlake does an insane job of acting. I know, I know, but seriously, Timberlake does a hell of a job. By the end of the movie, you completely forget that he was ever part of Backstreet Boys (or was it N*Sync? I don’t know).

So, go out. Rent it. Buy it. Don’t steal it. But see it. I think you’ll be glad you did. And next time I do a little movie review, I’ll try to do a movie that didn’t come out 3 years ago!

Hello,

First of all, let me say how cool it was that Rev Theory stopped by Best Buy to perform and hang out with us here in Kansas City. For those who don’t know, Rev Theory was on the second stage of the Cruefest tour when it stopped by KC. Since there wasn’t enough room in the area of Sprint Center for said second stage, all of those bands got the day off and we didn’t get to see them when the tour passed through. Most bands would take that day off and sleep in or just lounge on the bus, but Rev Theory decided to have an in-store performace and autograph/photo session with their fans here in KC. Hats off to them.

That being said, let me talk about the performace itself; Awesome/incredible/amazing….pick one. All of us at the office (and anyone who breathes music) understands one thing; if you can’t sit down and do it with an acoustic guitar, you can’t do it period. Rev Theory can do it. They laid down five songs as if they were written to be performed in that capacity starting with “Hell Yeah.” If you were there, then you know what I’m talking about. Speaking of which, for those of you who were there…..thank you! The band specifically came to me after it was over and were absolutely floored that over 400 of you came out on a Sunday to hang out with them at Best Buy. They appreciate the fans in KC more than you know and I told them that if they, or any band is looking for the best fans in the world, then they need to look no further than right here in the Midwest. Those of us at that station have known that for years and feel fortunate to have all of you as our family as you invite us into your lives everyday. Thank you and thanks again to Rev Theory for an incredible performance!

Did you hear it? I was listening to Paul (remember, I don’t sleep), and he debuted the brand new Creed single, “Overcome.” This is the first single from Creed in 7 years. I gotta be honest, I’m a Creed fan…Tremonti can bring it, and he does just that on this new single. You know that I think the band leaves a bad taste in listeners’ mouths because of one person and one person only: Scott Stapp. Love him or hate him, that’s the truth.

But back to the single. I dig it. I think you can tell the band has matured and progressed from where they were nearly a decade ago. You can tell they are still meshing well, though. To be honest, I think it sounds a little like Sevendust, which is NEVER a bad thing.

From the response Paul got on Facebook, it seems like a lot of people enjoyed it…It’ll be cool to see them crush it at The Sprint Center on October 10th.

Alright…I need a nap.

Alright…we’ve been playing the new Alice in Chains song, “Check My Brain.” What do you think about it? I’ll be honest, I dig it. It’s simple. It’s raw. It’s Alice in Chains.

aiccmb

Jerry Cantrell, the guitarist, says this about the song:

“There’s a certain aspect of sarcasm, I guess, being a guy from Seattle who lives in L.A., ex-drug addict who lives in the belly of the beast and doesn’t partake, and being totally cool with that. It’s like being the bad gambler and living in Vegas. It’s right there. It’s just the irony of that and a little bit of sarcasm. And it’s not putting this place down at all. It’s just kind of like, ‘Wow, you know, check my brain, wow.’”

I loved “A Looking in View.” I still do. I guess that this new track is actually the official single from the upcoming album, and it’s a hell of a follow-up. I can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album has to offer…stay tuned for more updates, and let me know what you think!

Have you been on your bike and watched as every light on a corner change but you are still stuck there with you thumb up your…
You keep your eye in the rear view in hopes that someone will pull up to you to trigger the light but it never happens.
I will be the first to admit that in those situations I will wait more than a fair enough time for the light to change but finally get so frustrated that I cant do it anymore.
I make sure I am clear all around and run the light.
Along with that I also run the risk of a ticket.
Checking around the web today though I found something on the FOX 4 web site that I am not going to put 100% trust in until I see it actually happen but it might make me feel a little better about the intersection slip.

Bikes, Motorcycles Get Go Ahead To Run Red Lights
Sharita Hutton Meagan Kelleher, FOX 4 Web Producer
August 13, 2009
A new law in Missouri will allow cyclists and motorcyclists to run red lights, under certain conditions. But, they do have to stop at the light first.
Missouri will soon be the eighth state to allow the red light runners. According to the Kansas City Star, riders can run the light if they completely stop first, the signal stays red for an “unreasonable time,” the light is malfunctioning or traffic at the cross street does not pose a hazard.
The reason for the law is because a lot of times bicycle riders and motorcycle riders are left in the red for a longer period of time because the weight of their vehicles don’t notify sensors to change the light.
The law goes into effect on August 28.

Now I am not at all telling you to just go out and run a light.
You still have to use your head and make sure that you are 100% clear and safe but I did want to pass this along to you.

Thanks to FOX 4 for getting this out there for us!

Ride Safe.

I told you I’d get this posted…So if you want to check out the new cover art for “Black Gives Way to Blue,” the new Alice in Chains album due out September 29th, here it is:

aic_finalPretty dark, which I dig. On the album, there is a track with the same name as the disc, and apparently Elton John has given his help to the band by playing piano on it. Jerry Cantrell explained to him that “Black Gives Way to Blue” is a powerful tribute to the late, great Layne Staley. And I guess Elton John loved it…so that should be interesting…to say the least.

In the meantime, here is a snippet of the “official” first single off of the new album, “Check My Brain.” Enjoy.

AUDIO

I can’t wait for the new album…as always, keep your eyes peeled to this blog…I’ll try to keep you updated with all the latest AIC news…
