I love the 4th of July.
If you get a chance take a little road trip through some of the small towns in the area and just check out all of the flags that line Main Street USA!
The fireworks, the parties, the food…How can you beat it!
It was not always this good…Got this in a email from a friend.
Check it out.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men
who signed the Declaration of Independence?
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,
and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army;
another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or
hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes,
and their sacred honor.
What kind of men were they?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants,
nine were farmers and large plantation owners;
men of means, well educated,
but they signed the Declaration of Independence
knowing full well that the penalty would be death if
they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and
trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
British Navy. He sold his home and properties to
pay his debts, and died in rags.
Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British
that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him,
and poverty was his reward.
Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,
Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.
At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson
home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General
George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed,
and Nelson died bankrupt.
Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.
The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.
John Hart was driven from his wife’s bedside as she was dying.
Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill
were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests
and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
children vanished.

So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and
thank these patriots. It’s not much to ask for the price they paid.
Remember: freedom is never free!

I know its still only July but, damn it, I am ready for the football season!!  Chiefs, KU bring it on (yes, for those of you who don’t know I’m a HUGE Jayhawk junkie).  I know a lot of people have been breaking down the numbers and really examining the players, coaches, coaching staff and all the stats in between but I’ve got to be honest with you….I’m just excited to go into a season without the stench of Carl Peterson looming over Arrowhead!  Maybe now we can actually focus on playing football and winning games instead of having that waste of space kicking his feet up on the desk and saying, “who cares, look at the attendance with us playing the way we are.”  (granted, I made that quote up and cannot prove that “King Carl” ever said anything along those lines but it certainly felt that way from that arrogant S.O.B).  Anyway, like I said, it was just a rambling thought but I’m ready to bust out the grill, chill the beer and hang at the stadiums with good friends and good food as we usher in a new era with the Chiefs and fire into another season of Jayhawk football!!  We’ll see ya at that tailgates!!

Wow, so are we are on the second day of summer and it is just crazy hot!
I know it is summer and we all expect the heat but keep your older family. friends. and neighbors in mind.
Make sure they have the a/c on or let then hang out and cool down with you.
This is the kind of heat that can be dangerous!
Also watch out for the animals.
Make sure they have plenty of water and shade.
Welcome to summer!
And remember in about 6 months we will be bitching about the cold!

Hey everybody,

A friend of mine sent me this link and it is really something!  Proof positive that music can bring us together and unite people regardless of belief, background or geography.  Enjoy…..

 

My hats off to the group who thought of and created this video and ESPECIALLY to those around the world who lent their voices/instruments to this incredible video.  Now if we could all ACTUALLY get along that well!!  …….and now I shall dismount from my soap box. :)

Well we started out with a cool and cloudy day Saturday for the 2nd annual Thunder Run for JDRF.
Made it up to Worth Harley Davidson North by about 10 am expecting to find a few bike on the lot but when I pulled in I found a full lot!
Over 400 riders showed up for the event!
Thank you KC for taking time out of your weekend for a great ride!
We had a great time and did allot of good!
Hope to see you there next year!

What happened to the year?
Ok, I know this is kind of silly but do you remember when you were a kid and you would always ask your mom and dad why it takes so long for Christmas, your birthday, summer vacation, really anything to get here and they would always tell you that as you get older things would get faster?
Well, I guess they were right!
We are already half way through the year!
I could swear that just last week it was still chilly and there was a chance for snow. I was taking down the Christmas lights while avoiding falling off my wood pile like I did putting them up!
But this morning I woke up and its less than two weeks from the 1st day of summer and my birthday! (feel free to send gifts, that is June 21st for those of you keeping track)
There are still plenty of warm days (or hot as hell here in KC)
So get off the computer and get outside!
Before you know it the chance for snow will be back in the forecast and we will be hearing Charismas music all over the place!
Score another one for mom and dad!

Just curious?
Think there might be a few left out at Liberty Memorial after the Rockfest throw down?
Now that I have rehydrated and got some much needed sleep I can look back and say wow, what a day.
It is hard to imagine 50,000 plus people in one place.
I figured it out Saturday that Rockfest was about the size of 25 of my hometowns.
(I grew up in a very town, but still)
Thank you so much for making Rockfest happen.
The bands were great, the weather held out, but it was you who made Rockfest so damn cool!
Thank you so much for my personal best concert experience to date!
Should we do it again?
